Carlos Urribarri
Carlos Urribarrí is a Venezuelan guitarist, composer, producer, and multidisciplinary artist based in Miami, FL. His work explores the intersection of sound and storytelling, blending jazz, Venezuelan traditions, ambient textures, and cinematic elements to create music that is both intimate and expansive.
His debut album, Templo de Agua (2022), earned three nominations at the Pepsi Music Awards in Venezuela, highlighting his poetic and genre-defying approach to instrumental music. His follow-up, Centauro (2024), is a deeply personal and sonically rich album described by critics as “a jazz self-portrait.” It features celebrated musicians such as Munir Hossn, Adolfo Herrera, and Elvis Martínez, further establishing Carlos as a vital voice in contemporary Latin jazz.
Alongside his work as a solo artist, Carlos has built a solid career as a producer and mixing engineer, collaborating across disciplines and formats. He is the founder of Trastiempo Studio, where he develops a wide range of musical projects—from solo recordings and collaborative albums to original soundtracks and post-production work. His recent film scoring work includes ‘Ayer será igual que mañana’ and ‘Tengo cinco días muerto’ (both directed by Omar Arteaga), and ‘Us in the maze’ directed by Elaine Uzcátegui, all showcased at international festivals.
Carlos served as mixing engineer for ‘Impronta’, the Latin Grammy–nominated album by flutist Omar Acosta, produced by Miguel Siso and featuring world-renowned artists such as Jorge Pardo, Pedro Eustache, and Alexis Cárdenas. He also worked as co-producer, guitarist, and mixing engineer on ‘Chillin Flute’ by Eric Chacón, a genre-blending record praised for its inventiveness and finesse.
In addition to his creative work, Carlos is a dedicated educator, currently teaching at Kalos Music & Art School and Miami Fine Arts Academy, where he mentors the next generation of guitarists and composers.
Though music remains his central language, Carlos also explores the visual arts through painting, adding another layer to his artistic expression — a quiet, evolving complement to his sonic world.
He remains active as a guitarist, composer, film scorer, producer, and educator, crafting imaginative soundscapes from his studio in Miami.
